D Day Beaches

Visited the sites with my dad as a teenager. I also have it on my list, to take the ferry and a mini cycle tour of the beaches and cemeteries / memorials at some point.

Made it to Caen and along Beaches or roads near by. Currently in Arromanche, next stop Grand Camp Maisy

In my defence, I was typing on a phone while cooking and with a rather large G+T on the go...

How disappointing, but I guess you couldn't tell us what you actually did anyway, for fear of getting banned or something!

Fantastic 3 days cycling all 5 d day beaches, visiting museums & cemetries.

Made had only by the heat in Normandy this week.

Motorists were fantastic. No close passes, waiting patiently for safe space to pass etc.

Definitely a place to return to

@spen666 please put photos on. I have the D Day beaches on an ever increasing list of things to cycle to. I did the museums near Calais ages ago on a motorbike and have wanted to return ever since to see it all.

I've done that several times when I was younger as it was an easy trip for me. Train Winchester to Portsmouth. Ferry to Oustreham. Cycle to Cherbourg. Ferry to Portsmouth. Train to Winchester. Don't really need a gpx route the roads are/were? quiet so I took it leisurely over several days are there is such a lot to see. A detailed Michelin map is all you need really. Enjoy.

Been there as a little boy with my parents, but returned. few years back on a diving trip. Not the beaches that time but the many wrecks. The most impressive and sad was the Leopoldsville, a huge liner used as a hospital ship which hit a mine. A major tragedy as the many wounded couldn't get off as easily as more able bodied servicemen. Another notable wreck was full of Sherman tanks. Didn't go inside as it was festooned with fishing line, quite apart from the worry of swimming underneath a load of upside down Sherman tanks hanging from rusty chains. A third rather poignant wreck was a ship from 1917, rather than '44. The wreck was broken up but the seabed was covered in thousands of rolls of barbed wire headed for the trenches.
