Yesterday I was out on the cross bike, at one point I tried to down-shift on the rear (I was in the biggest sprocket) and the mechanism wouldn't release. The rear mech is moving fine but the front lever seems to be jammed, when I push both levers in, neither seems to want to move in as far as they should.

Anyone any thoughts - apart from expensive ones?

You can take it off the bike undo the cable from the mech but leave it in the mech. Then undo the grub screws and see why the shifter is not moving. what mech do you have?

DA 9 speed.
I took an Ultegra shifter apart once - NOT a good idea, I'm worried that I'm going down the same road again!

Lube it - use a light lube, or indeed WD then lube again.... Don't take them apart.... unless you are a watch maker !

It's unusual for these to fail, but if you've never given the 'mechanicals' a squirt then the grease or dirt within may cause issues.

Looking like a new shifter ;), anyone got a right hand side DA or Ultegra STI lever, perfect condition that they can give me for free?
