Why don't you try stepping away from the keyboard, growing up, and not posting something snide and nasty every time you see my name appear on the board because you simply can't help yourself? Go on, see if you can manage it.

I bought a new pc after god knows how much moaning from the family about our ancient wheezing beastie (I say 'new', it was actually £46 off ebay, but speedy as hell in comparison) only to get grief from my youngest (10, and smart as all getout) - 'I thought you said you were going to get a new computer, but it's the same!'

No it's not, I protested, it's way quicker. 'Yes. You changed the brain, but the computer's just the same' she protested. I finally twigged: to her, the 'computer' is what she's looking at - ie, the monitor.

It's easy to forget - They See Things Differently.

In the theme of this thread I think you'll be getting asked whether eating too much beetroot makes you angry and your face flush , as I once heard a kid ask.

According to an online tax calculator I found, adults aged 22 or over getting £5.73 an hour would take home £182.97 a week not £125.

For those aged 18-21 on £4.77/hr it would be £158.13 a week take home.

At £3.53 per hour for all workers under the age of 18, who are no longer of compulsory school age - fair enough, it would be £126.05.

But. People on NWM tend not to work year round full time; much is seasonal/transient work, and they tend to lose their jobs before the various statutory protections attach at the one-year point. Also, many work in sectors where unlawful deductions are rife (see the GLA, for example, for details).

So, the net effect of those, and other, factors is to diminish the actual take-home of those on NMW to a rate that is considerably exceeded by the headline figure. Average TH earnings were estimated, last time I saw figures on this (end last year) to be around the £30 a day mark for full-time workers.
