I've seen some daft things on the roads, and i'm sure you guys have too. But how about this. A Fire bike. yes a Fire Bike. Now, I know your building this mental image of how can a bike carry buckets of water, hose and ladder. Well same here. Walking back from the gym and i sometimes see police horses and police MTB's where i think can do a good job in certain areas. But why the heck Fire Bikes. Yes they had pallion thingys on the back, maybe they had sand and water in, i dunno. anyway comments please.

I guess the fire brigade do more than put out fires, maybe its the fast response unit for cats stuck up trees....

might save an unnecessary trip for a fire engine...

They don't always get called out to fires. That sort of thing could help with prank calls, if it can get their sooner in the area (therefore, could send the fire engine back if there isn't a fire), they can probably also access stuff and feedback to any fire engine on the way.

I'm sure they is a good reason to them and they didn't just feel like wasting tax payers money

Most likely. One of the key things about bike paramedics is that they can get to a scene faster than an ambulance, and if it turns out just to be someone fainting or a drunk or something, they can radio in and have the ambulance stopped, perhaps freeing it up for another shout.

Also, a bike paramedic can be on the scene quickly and start assessment and treatment. I'd imagine a fire fighter on scene quickly could be assessing the severity of the incident, getting a head start on planning for when the crew arrive, any special equipment needed coordinating other emergency services.

Also, the fire brigade do other stuff too - fire prevention work, fitting smoke alarms, giving talks...

Going around fitting free alarms?

They did this at our house. Handsome firefighter chap knocks at the door and offers to put free fire alarms. MrsG cannot resist and ensures that four of them come to do it while having tea and cake.

All custy.

Except, they start to run out of power after about 18months. Good for free I hear you say. But hold on, its not possible to change the batteries. And worst still they fixed them to my ceilings with some industrial strength glue so that when I pulled them off to replace them with new ones a good part of my celing comes with them.

GRRRR to Firemen and their free fire alarms.

I used to live not far from a volunteer fireman. When his bleep went off, he used to use his bike to get to the fire station. (And you'd better not get in his way!)

Maybe nowadays the fire service issues bikes for that purpose?
