It's only a job.

My entire career plan was based upon never working further away from home than I could cycle commute.

Here it says

Are we allowed to take a road bike inside London overground?[/quote]

Taking road bikes on London Overground should be alright. I used to go from Cannonbury at 6.30am arriving at West Croydon 7.25am with no problem.

My wife won't let me commute by bike either, so I run instead. Get public transport part of the way.

That's a good one but she is thinking another car.

Why cycle when you can run?
Why run when you can walk?
Why walk when you can use public transport.
Why use public transport when you can drive.

Get a second car.

You mean a third?

I like your thinking, but for some strange reason quite a few people drive into London everyday. I learned first time, they're still figuring it out.

Are there really no quieter roads that you could use without bumping the distance up too much?

Brompton* and train to Willesden Junction then bike it?

*other folders are available but you know in buying other brands you are just delaying the inevitable

I'm lucky when I do have to commute; the finer half respects it but there's a slight lack of choice. I still work weekends on the taxis but during the week I'm available to do supply teaching 3 days one week and two days the next. If I have reasonable notice, I cycle because we share a car and us both getting to school and the kids to where they need to be is usually strategically impossible.

But, I can have some long commutes - 22 miles each way on Friday, and 28 miles each way today. Friday was hideous due the weather and having to go right through Bristol city centre.

Hope you resolve the problem A Cyclist.
