Does anyone have any experience of claiming against a company when their bike has been damaged by falling from a cycle carrying trailer?

Did they have in their terms and conditions that cycles are carried at the owner's risk? If they did, then perhaps you are out of luck. If they didn't, then I think it is reasonable to assume that someone carrying your bike should look after it and so perhaps you'd be able to claim from them.

Minibus, Trailer and driver supplied by a local company to transport riders and cycles form A to B.
Driver 'secured' all bikes to trailer, approx 5 miles from our destination my bike broke its securing and came off trailer, bouncing across the road causing damage (rough estimate £600-700). Another bike also came loose but fortunately stayed on the trailer and suffered no damage.
BIke currently at LBS awaiting inspection. Driver didn't have a clue as regards insurance, but have been onto company and awaiting reply.

Our club hired a trailer for the bikes on C2C last year which attached to their coach, it took the rubber of loads of peoples tyres and with hardknott pass decent not ideal when people realised after the event. I don't think they got any come back from them yet they are using the same company this year.

This was my first experience of this method of transporting my pride and joy. Don't think I will be doing it again in the near future!

I guess small claims court would be an option if they refuse to pay out on insurance.

Yes that is one of the options I have on my list. As I say, hopefully all can be resolved amicably, but always nice to have other options just in case.

Update so far, company accepted (verbally) fault. Will either pay up front or through insurance depending on final repair cost. So watch this space.
