...or whatever you call a thin branch with twiggy bits on the end... started off as a lovely ride this morning, and I got away earlyish for once. Was about 7 miles into ride, just at top of first significant hill, and entering snow-zone (no snow back in town). Anyway, said branch with twiggy bits fell off a tree, landed in front of me, I went straight over it, and it tangled in the rear mech, ripping hanger off, mangling mech, sending mech into the spokes and taking out a few of those too! Totally bu99ered! Thankfully Mrs F was at home, and came and rescued me from a snowy trudge with knackered bike!
It's now in bike shop... I was gonna replace cassette and chain anyway, and while it's there it might as well have the brakes seen to...
Ho hum! At least I didn't fall off

Ohh bugger 1,000,000 to 1 that.......eek.

That's what I thought! Still, estimate is just £100 including the other things I've asked them to do. Looking on the bright side, the bike'll be set up nicely for springtime

Wood you believe it?

Cyclocidal trees are not a new phenomenon. I was once cyling down a poplar lined road near the Dutch border on a very bright but very windy day. There had been the usual sad story the night before about a bloke being killed when tree was blown onto his car as he was driving along. There I was on my bike and started musing about how huge the odds against being in the wrong place at the wrong time must be. At that moment a branch, about nine foot long and about 2 - 3 inch diameter came down and landed with an almighty and very painful Twack! across my arms. The morale is that it's best not even to think about branch attacks when pedalling along.

... and I had a phone call at 10.00am to say it's ready! How's that for quick service! Unfortunately I don't think I'll be able to get over there to pick it up till Saturday
