Damn You, Halfords

So my day was okay. I had originally planned to head down to Halfords and buy a bottle of GT-85. It's pouring outside so I thought that I could give my bike a good clean and this would be a good opportunity to test it.

Before I left for Halfords, a package arrived at my door and it was stuck through my letterbox. They'd gotten the address wrong, the house it was meant to go to was only a few miles away so I thought I'd deliver it by hand, why not? I left, nothing dramatic on the way there or the way back except my back brake was sticking but that's it.

Came back home, got changed (I'm soaking wet ) and headed back out to Halfords. Got there, they had a nice deal where you got a 400ml bottle of GT-85 for £2.50 (originally £5) if you buy another cycling item so I picked out a nice bell. Went to pay for it, was greeted by "Sorry sir, you're unable to purchase this item as you're under 18".

Damn.

Plans ruined. I put the items back on the shelf and left. I stopped up at LBS #1 and they sold me a 400ml bottle for £4, great. Headed up to LBS #2 and he was kind enough to fix my rear brake, free of charge. Great x2.

So all in all, interesting day and it's only 3oclock! Do you have any good methods for cleaning your bike? I was just going to go for a bucket of warm soapy water, spray it down with GT-85 and then relube the chain and cassette.

baby wipes for me. I never use water at all now. baby wipes and GT85 for the cassette and chain, relube chain with chainlube after. After cleaning, polish with Mr Sheen, to make sure its as easy next time.

Handy to suspend the bike if you can. Either by a workstand or from the ceiling of the garage/shed by the saddle/stem.

Not terribly windy here but the rain is bitterly cold. 18mph winds with 94% humidity.

Soapy water. Well more wet cloth then baby wipes wipe chain with cloth gt85 the badboy chain et al. Nd gt85 sprayed on a cloth to shine the bike. Smells great. Buy a workstand makes the job real easy

I really don't know anything about Halfords,but by seeing the way people refer to it here,I'd say GTH(go to hell) could translate for Cyclists as Go to Halfords

I use the cheap bike cleaner from Poundland.
Get the bike wet (if it isn't already) squirt the cleaner on, leave for a few minutes, rub any grubby bits with an old paintbrush and then rinse. Mickle the chain and you're done.

EDIT - that's cleaning, not rust removal. Cross-posting...

A spray of GT85 or WD40 and a quick rub with some fine wire wool should sort it out.

Baby wipes are great forcleaning the whole bike ,and yes its bloomin windy today......
