I saw some kids in the village of Reach collecting conkers from a tree on the village green on my way home this evening. I thought kids stopped playing with conkers years ago.
They did stop. But then they started again. My youngest kid collects them every year. Just collecting though, no thought of using them in combat - they sit and rot on the patio. I don't know whether it's a health and safety thing in schools, or whether the kids are more peaceable, but conker fighting doesn't seem happen. Given the amount of plastic and electronic crap available to children these days, it's hard to fathom what the attraction is. Collecting for its own sake I guess.
