So possible scientific proof for something alot of us already know, perhaps we can use it as evidence that these people need to wear helmets and hi-viz for the "safety" of others.

Did you type this while walking down Oxford Street.^_^

I have known it for a while, only a few weeks ago I was taking Eileen to work in town, when I saw a young woman on the pavement, instinctively I knew what was going to happen and I even had time to look at Eileen who also had a good idea what was going to happen, luckily we were very aware and my foot was already of the gas and hovering over the brake (we were doing around 20mph on a 30mph road) and sure enough she stepped out and started to cross, I sounded my horn but she never even looked away from her phone, so I came to a stop about 3 foot away from her, she was now in the middle of the road.........and still didn't know we were there, when she did look up and notice us, she was wearing headphones and then proceeded to give me some hand gestures........I really do wish I hadn't anticipated what was about to happen, she really did deserve a lesson of the highway kind.

This is absolutely a true story.

Er..... many years ago when I was about 16 I walked across a street without looking in the middle of Newcastle on Tyne, thinking nothing was coming because I couldn't hear anything. What I did hear was a strange sort of ZZZZZZzzzzz of locked tyres on wet tarmac and then the bumper of a white Escort van came to rest against my leg, two builder types staring at me in shock through the windscreen. I was quite embarrassed so I waved a vague "sorry" and bumbled off.

Telephones were made of heavy plastic and attached to the wall with wires so I didn't even have that excuse.

About half a mile into my morning commute, I have to ride past the local hospital and major DWP site while heading toward a Metro station, the amount of faces glued to mobile phones that literally do not see anything beyond two feet is unbelievable.
I have had more close calls with these than any vehicles ( tho a lot less dangerous for me).

Early effort at mobile phone
