I've been to rugby league, rugby union and lots of football matches. I've never had any bother at any of them.

At least football players don't go around punching other players in the head and getting away with unlike with rugby.

I'm a footie fan and I have not seen trouble at a match for years now - having said that you do get a lot of swearing and I not been to see Leeds or Millwall play.

I went to the Dubai 7s when I out there on business a few years ago and a couple of things were quite interesting. Firstly as the players are a mix of amateurs and pros if was clear the pros now play to the whistle, like in football, while the amateurs stopped when a clear offence occurred. Secondly I witnessed a fight in the crowd - the local cops do not mess about- they were in with their sticks very quickly

Football is a gentleman's game played by hooligans, and rugby is a hooligans' game played by gentlemen

Dunno where to start with this, so I'll start by saying please stop calling it soccer:thumbsup:

Been to football all my life, seen loads of trouble but never been involved. If you want it its easy to find, if you want to avoid it that's easy too.

Been to some huge rugby games - Tigers v Bath back in the day, Internationals, British Lions etc - the atmosphere just doesn't compare to football for me. I can't explain it but there's something about the edginess of a football match (together with the smell of boiled hotdogs:hungry:) that can't be beaten. It's not for everyone though, and I can understand those who might prefer the less threatening atmosphere at rugby. Cardiff on International day is a laugh though.

Sometimes I think this is self-perpetuating. Football Fans think that is is their right, their heritage, their duty, to hate, abuse, antagonise and disrespect the opposition fans. Rugby fans think that they are inherently more civilised and trustworthy, and must demonstrate this by being civil towards the opposition fans.

Being a rugby fan, I treasure the attitude of the fans and clubs. I love it when we visit football grounds, either due to redevelopment or Heineken Cup QF/SF. The police and stewards appear to be on hightened alert when they see fans mixing. Eventually they learn to relax.

Ahh, many memories, some happy! Saw one match, a dull turgid affair for the neutral, a nail-biting cliff-hanger for the passionate supporter. Sat next to Will Johnson, Martin's brother. Arrived late due to cancelled train, lost most of my voice by half time, and the rest by half way through the next period/

Football is far more tribal than rugby. The only time I've shouted abuse at a rugby player was when when Johnny Wilkinson was lining up a drop goal in 2003, not because I wanted him to miss, but because I knew what the English media would be like if it went over... I was correct.

I have always enjoyed rugby, and was at Stradey Park on 31 October 1972. If you know rugby you will know the significance of that date! There I was, an Englishman cheering with and for the Welsh side.

I have absolutely no time at all for football.
