It's not as if you're casting a black guy as Queen Victoria is it?

"Idris, love? Yes, it's Benny, your agent. Now listen, I've had a proposal in that I thought might interest you. Might sound a bit strange, but hear me out..."

Lenny Henry?

Not at all... That is the cinema interpretation, NOT the original Bond

You're referring to the books? It's a long while since I read them (having been an adult for some time now) but I seem to recall that the character portrayed was even less pleasant than the cinematic version.

As were the rest- think of Callan, Harry Palmer and other "spies" of the era in books or film
The best way to describe them is anti-heroes

But the likes of Callan and Harry Palmer now seem cringe-inducingly old-fashioned and ridiculous. Bond really should have gone the same way by now.

So long as they don't "reboot/ reimagine " Harry Palmer with Danny Dyer

However introducing Harry Palmer into
Eastenders......

Jonny Lee Miller (whose granddad was Bernard Lee, interestingly) or Tom Hardy would get my vote, if I cared one jot for Bond movies. Which, I admit, I don't. Tom Hiddleston just seems a bit effete.
