That means all the tailgater has to do is get as close as possible, the driver in front will then drive so slowly that the tailgater will have a much greater chance of being able to overtake quickly.

I'm not convinced it is ever a good idea to deliberately antagonise other people, especially those who are already impatient or on a short fuse. It is just asking for a road rage attack. If there is one thing more dangerous than a tailgater, it is an angry tailgater.

Buy one of those scrolling display thingys, and type a message telling the tailgater that you are far from impressed by his driving skills.

I did that to a lorry driver once using sign language and he chased us for miles. It started when my wife turned right at a roundabout and he blared his horn.
