Daughter #1 is off to Uni soon. Graphic Design.

She has the full Gov.t loan for Fees and a means tested grant which'll just cover accommodation.
So the question is, how much do people pay or expect their student offspring to be able to live on?
Food and Drink, Travel, Drugs, odds and sods, everyday Uni stuff really. I have a figure in mind, but am interested if I'm in the right ball park.

So what do you do?
Any advice guidlines?

Cheers FF.

excluding fares to and from home (because we don't know which uni she's going to).........£150 a week for food, transport around town, drink, late night taxis, make-up, clothes, handbags, emergency contraception (just joshing with you, FF), more drink, films, theatre, exhibitions and (most importantly) hair. Count on books costing £750 the first year and decreasing after that. Materials costs for Graphic Design could be a lot.

I survived on £60 per week that had to cover everything except accommodation. Note; I had to earn that £60 myself by working every Saturday and Sunday throughout my entire time at uni - this seriously affected my social life and also meant no day off EVER! As a Science student I had about 25 hours per week on my timetable so it was very intensive.

I managed on about 100 quid a week when I was at Uni, and I was considered relatively well off on that (only due to the fact that I had a part time job throughout I hasten to add!)

You'll not notice what you spend, Fab. Go for it!

MacBook pro
iPad 32Gb with retina display etc and all the wireless peripherals needed...
Bose QuietComfort 15 headphones (must have all extraneous noise cancelled out while creating.)
Latest Adobe Creative Suite
Store card for one or two shops in your name, with daughter as signatory. M&S, Waitrose for grub...don't want her to eat poorly, do you?
Debit card ditto - bars and restaurants take this form of payment and they're easily replaced when lost - unlike folding spondulicks.
Insurance cover.

I hope she has a great time.
