He's definitely one of my all-time favourites. I have a Dave Allen DVD, released under the BBC label in 2005, which I've watched numerous times . One of my favourites is the sketch where one guy is showing another the chair that due to amazing technology does just about everything. Astonished, the other guy sits down in the chair, and says "Well, b#gger me!" .

.......... the one about the Nun who was asked multiple times if she'd 'got out of the wrong side of the bed'

I'd not seen that sketch before, but strangely enough I did guess the end as soon as he sat down in the cafe.

I enjoyed very much both programs, not laughed so much in ages. Don't ever remember hearing why he died so young.
