vastly overrated, probably because he didn't drop dead like all his contemporaries so the media feel the need to convert him to a brilliant elder statesman

I've never been a fan of Bowie. the Ashes to Ashes video scared me when i was a kid... Let's Dance was just pants.

But on hearing Seu Jorge's fantastic Portuguese covers of some Bowie songs (as seen on the movie: The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou).. I have a new found respect for Bowie.

We did Bowie last week, on the whole he was generally pretty rubbish but Heroes and Laughing Gnome are OK.

Now where did I put my Justin Bieber album?

Ashes to Ashes as a vid was visionary when it came out. It was well ahead of its time. A nod to his glam rock days and a new experimental direction. It was a massive hit.

I agree about Let's Dance. I once spent an hour trying to work out what the lyrics of Ashes to Ashes were about.

I like most of his famous songs, but that's about it. I tried to listen to his new album, but although it was 'interesting', I found it depressing, and had to listen to some Selecter and Madness to cheer myself up.
If his new one was by anyone else, it would be forgotten by tomorrow morning.
