This is the Dawes that I have just completed. It was in a friend's spare room since the 70's - I believe it is a 60's bike (although still not sure).
The paintwork was almost perfect. I have replaced the tyres/tubes, striped and lubed brakes and cables, fitted better brake blocks, a new Specialized BG saddle, new gel bar tape, new rear derailleur (+hanger) and cleaned and refitted the origin saddlebag (1960's cotton duck Karrimor).
Total cost including purchase £70. Rides like a dream but I still can't get used to the handlebars (uncomfortable).
To retape the bars I watched a video on youtube (from USA) as I hadn't done it before.
I am impressed with the Michelin City 27x1 1/4 tyres although they look a little big compared to the originals that I had to scrape from the rims.
