Lots of potential. These aren't bad bikes at all, a few snotty types look down their noses at Dawes, more fool them.

Id be sorting that bar tape and bar/seat angles.

Good buy!

 Don,t worry these are the top of my to do list. You are also quite right there is nothing wrong with a Dawes Galaxy I,v had a couple of them in the past & was very sad when they were both sold to their new owners I still see one of them knocking about Town its still going strong. I always wanted another Galaxy but this time with a bigger 23inch frame so I bought this one when I saw it & it was a real bargain although a bit rough around the edges it will make a cracking bike once fully sorted out  regards Carlton Flier

 Been busy doing the wheel bearings & fitting new tyres on the Galaxy plus loads of other little jobs binning the horrible black plumbers bar foam (why do people buy that rubbish) I,v also been replacing rusty bits/bobs,cleaning de-clagging the cassette & gears of years of road filth I,ll post some more pictures as the bikes gets some more NOS parts  Carlton Flier

Still a nice looking machine, the only thing ID add would be a nice Brooks or maybe a Wrights saddle.
 Out first thing this morning to try out the Galaxy since its re-build ready for the weekend. Everything works as it should & the only thing I,m changing for the moment will be the seat for a Wrights that I have in stock.

My oldest son did his E2E last year on one of those... same colour, maybe a bit darker brown and with chrome forks.

Changed to Alhonga deep drop brakes (the old centre-pulls were never great) and so were able to change to 700c wheels when the old 27" started losing spokes.

Fab bikes ... my 1988 Galaxy is still my best bike.
