Nice bike! Interesting read for me because I've also got an old (though not quite as old as yours - 80s I think, and some of the bits have been updated by a previous owner) Galaxy, and it's green too (they look best in green IMHO!  ). I had the opposite problem with sizing though, so have swapped the stem for a shorter one. 

If I saw that for sale for £20-30, I'd snap it up...

Can you try removing the rust with some wire wool, then finding a car touch-up pen kit in the same colour of green? The kits usually contain a colour pen plus a clear lacquer which give a much, much, better finish than Hammerite IMO.

With the nail varnish Arch...do you mean clear or a green?

Green. I'm sure I've seen girls wearing colours like that. Not sure what sort of shop is best to look in - a goth type place might do it, or a cheapy accessories type store - something that caters for early to mid teens...

Baggy's car touch up pen idea is good though - might be easier to find a match. But nail varnish might be very cheap, if you're lucky.


Alternatively have a look in a model shop, for a Humbrol Enamel - you only need a tiny pot. But I don't know if I've ever seen a metallic green.

Ok, according to this site, Humbrol do one metallic green - not sure how good a match it is, you'd be best to see the pot lid for real....

Good excuse to go into a model shop!
