my friend says she gets dead arms when she cycles (not her hands). anyone ever experienced this and why?

if she said it was just her hands i would have thought she was leaning on her hands to much, but she says it's her arms so i don't know what to tell her.

sounds like she is reaching to far try and shorten the stem and see how she is.

More miles as well - can take time to get used to bike positions - many people hold the bars too tightly - you should only be light on the bars - very little weight. It's all about core strength as well, as your back/shoulders will support most of your weight once 'trained'.

What's her position like - upright / flat back / or where abouts in between ?

Is she riding road/moutain or hybrid?

Sounds like she is sticking herself on one position and one position only. tell her to move around the bike a bit, raise arms for indication on corners, go on the drops for a while etc.
