It's all about being flexible I suppose. When I first started cycling to work many years ago, I would sit at my desk to cool down before having a shower and then starting work at say 9am. I would enter 9am onto my timesheet. However more and more frequently I found I would be expected to answer calls or queries before 9am. Now my employer may or may not have issues with paying me for the time it takes to have a shower but I certainly have issues with working for nothing. So now, my work day starts when I get to my desk and I count my shower time as my "smoking break".I have thought about that option but I don't think the company would be keen on it's employees showering on works time? I don't think it is unreasonable for them to expect me to be ready for my days work at the contracted start time.
