If you're looking for a nice cosy (inexpensive) winter base layer, then might I suggest this:

They do in mens, ladies and kiddies sizes, several colourways. Yep, intended for skiing, but makes a fabby base layer for colder days or a mid layer for less cold days. Plus the collar means no buff or scarf needed. Like a lot of Decathlon stuff, cut (well, the ladies' ones anyway) comes up a bit on the small side, so would suggest going up a size.
