my granny, who lived in the fens surrounded by fields of sprouts, always said you had to wait until the first frosts before picking and eating sprouts.

Needless to say she ate a lot of sprouts!! Phhhaaarrrrppp

I don't get why I hate sprouts so much - I love cabbage, but even the smell of sprouts makes me balk!

Years ago my uncle had some friends, from London, up to stay for a weekend. My uncle had a large garden that he grew plenty of veg. The couple looking over his veg plot saw the sprouts and both said they thought that sprouts were just small cabbages.

I agree that sprouts are best after a frost but that can be got from the freezer can't it

The Brussels sprout may have some uses (small missiles maybe) but as a foodstuff... bleeeuuuuuurrrrghhhh :eek:xx(

My father buys them on the stalk just before Christmas and stores them out of doors. When he fetched them in last year there was a snail on the stalk which hadn't eaten any of the sprouts... if even snails won't eat 'em that has to prove something!
