Defeated trying to mount lights.....

This is just to find out if it really is me, or a general problem.
The other half, Gawd bless her, presented me with a couple of new front lights to ' keep me safe' on the night travels. One is reasonable quality, the other is ( don't tell her tho' !) pretty cheap, but both combo LED and ok, apart from the fact that neither mount fits around the bar stem on my Aether!
Now, is this a function of 'cheap' lights, of particularly oversized tubing on my bars? It's just so infuriating, and I really don't want to start paying £80 ish just so the ruddy brackets fit!
