Deformed Gatoskin tyre leading to lumpy ride - anyone else had this?

Why? (Serious question)

Washing up liquid contains quite a bit of salt, you could use some other type of soap but it would dry out and you'd have to put fresh on if you refitted the tyre (which might not be available if you were out on the road).

Dishwash liquid does contain salt as a thickener (as do many shampoos and other liquid detergent products) but the worst aspect of it is the mess. With talc at least once the tyre is on, you can wipe over with a damp cloth and forget it.
