Defy 1 or Cube Attempt

Hey,
I'm new in this forum and need some advice.

I have a good offer about Giant Defy 1 2012 and Cube Attempt 2011. The price is about the same.

They're pretty much on par specification wise.

The Cube is more of a pure racer as opposed to the Defy which is a bit of a beginner racer/commuter bike, so it depends on what type of riding you'll be doing. The Defy (from my experience) is more comfortable and great for a first road bike. I own a Defy 4 which is having 105 derailleurs as an upgrade at the moment, it's much more suitable for me as I've only just started riding road.

Get the Defy, if you're commuting and aren't racing in a club (like if you're not a cat 3 or above although you'll know what I mean)

Get the Cube if you are racing and want less comfort.

I would go for the cube looks nicer as said dynamics are different

(plus I can only say that because I own a Defy4 already) :laugh:

Thanks for the opinions. I'm not a racer for sure, but I'm not looking the bike for commuting either. Anyway, Defy might be the one I'm looking for. My interests are more in long and relaxed rides.

Well, under 1000 € (800£). Depends how much I can get from my old bike.

I'd save spending loads on a well specced bike for long & relaxed rides. Higher spec groupsets are mainly for weight and racing, if you're doing that sort of riding, just get a lower end specced bike.

I'd suggest a Giant Rapid 3 or Specialized Sirrus, as they're hybrid style bikes with flat bars. Drop bars are for going fast and also give you more hand positions, but the flat bars with bar ends will still give you hand position options.

With the money you save you could buy a decent wheelset (aftermarket wheelsets are usually heavy) to help drop the rotational weight for eaze on the legs too.

Interesting. Lower specced bike with lighter wheels makes sense. I haven't thought it that way. I like dropbars, though. Had enough about flatbar earlier.

With relaxed rides I didn't mean the speed. I like to ride pretty fast even though I'm not going to race. Maybe some grouprides with local club...

wel you can always put drops on hybrid you wouldnt know the difference

Defys were made for the type of riding you're mentioning. Go for one of those :smile:

I would get the cube attempt 2011 - it looks so damn sexy!!!!
I've just looked into c2w scheme at work, so looking at the 2 you mentioned and the defy 2 as i like the colour scheme better.
Some friends have bought high end hybrids, but regretted not buying a proper racer

Kind of been there. I bought 5 years ago a Felt hybrid. Rode it about two years and then I sold it as I wanted a better riding position (dropbars). I bought cc 2009 'cos I needed a bike for commuting year-round. Cc was ok but here in Finland the winter is really snowy and fattier tyres are better. Now I have Surly Karate Monkey ss as commuter/winter bike and no need for cc anymore. The next one has to be road bike.


What do you think about the wheels between these two, Cube vs Defy?

I am looking at Cube Agree sl for my next bike or a Signature Koga.Both from Cyclesense in Tadcaster,for me it would be the Cube.But try to sit on both bikes and take your time in picking the right one.
