Could have been on his phone, or taking a booking? Or he could have been ''hypnotised'' by your light and drawn towards it. Usually where your eyes are pointing towards is usually the direction you will travel. Very true when riding a book/mbike, and has been known to happen in a car.

Very true, one of the hardest habits to get out of when i started mountain biking, i'd always ride straight into the thing i was trying to avoid.

To me it looks like he was aiming to stradle the speed bump (white triangle markings) and didn't care/didn't notice that you were coming the other way. Was it a 20mph street? Probably speeding whatever the limit.

Yes, that is my view of it as well. He was aiming for the speed bump and you were just unimportant street clutter.

What's the light triangular thing in the road, just about where you passed? A gully cover? If it's something raised from the road surface, I'd say he was aiming to straddle it and assumed you'd move over to give him space.

i would say he comes across the road to straddle the gully cover too, i don't think he saw you at all, he was not concentrating.

Are you sure he moved your way Maggers? I paused it and the gap between him and the pavement on your side doesn't seem to vary i.e. he kept his line.

He probably thought he was leaving you enough room and that as a cyclist you did not need/deserve any more.
I regularly get left about the same amount of room as that at a place where motorists park on the opposite side of the road. Oncoming motorists pull in to the gap between me and the parked vehicles.

Hi Guys,

Thanks for the comments. Just to clarify, there is no speed bump there. All there is is one of those triangular manhole covers. It isn't raised, and I am sure I could go over it on the bike no problem. I've came across many cars on that section and I've never had a problem before.

I think he either did it intentionally (probably for a laugh ) or as some of you have suggested because he was distracted. At the time, though, I am sure I saw him looking ahead (and at me), but I can't be 100% sure.

Of course there is nothing I can do about it, but I was interested in what everyone else thought about it.
