I went to the dentists again for another filling. I got the impression that he actually did some root canal work. He did some root canal work on my wisdom tooth several months ago. I thought he used the long, thin drill bit a long time, and that he drilled three holes with it. I also saw him put some of those carrot shaped bits of plastic in my mouth. He did not say anything about it being root canal work and I did not see him write anything in the notes about it. The patients can see the dentists notes on a screen. I wanted to ask him about it, but I wondered if he'd be required to charge me more if it was root canal work.

That's unusual, just ask. He might have been using pins or posts to keep the filling in ?
