Derailleur care

Is it necessary to grease a derailleur OR is regular oiling preferable ?

I've only used grease on mine once. Now after cleaning I just spray liberally with GT85 and wipe of the excess from the external surfaces. When the weather's bad/wet this gets done about once a week, but when its dry like present I will probably do it about once every two weeks.

I found this clip quite useful. I use GT85 and Castrol LMX grease instead of the Finish Line products in the film.

I find the spring and inner area gets dirty after a while and needs a clean with an old tooth brush.

Spray GT85 when cleaned and rinsed. Works a treat, but only do this 4/5 times a year.
