Tarte Tatin. Looks impressive but not difficult to make. Butter, sugar, apples and ready-rolled puff pastry are all you need. 10-15 mins prep, 40 mins cooking. Serve with vanilla ice cream.

Ginger nuts, spotted dick and a tarte tatin...my, you'll be pudding on the style tonight Rich. My tip: use plastic spoons in the wine glasses that Frank hasn't given back yet! ^_^

Zabaglione, aka Hot Booze Foam. Beat egg yolks with sugar and whisk in booze in a bowl over a pan of simmering water. Serve with some good plainish thin biscuits. Dry marsala is good, but you could use other kinds of booze. I've made it with prosecco before.

I made that when I somehow aquired a bottle of sweet wine, and yes it was surprisingly easy. Although if you do it the proper way with a copper pan straight on the heat I suspect it's not.

Another very easy and very good thing is Aldo Zilli's pine-nut semifreddo. But you do need three large bowls. I'm on a phone and can't be arsed to type the method, but iirc it's on the very last page of the Silver Spoon. I'm sure Rich will have a copy (although 3BM reckons he works exclusively from Nigella Lawson videos  ).

Sarah Lee Chocolate Gateaux. You should just have time to thaw one out and if not, serve it frozen and say it's ice cream cake.

Or you could go for Arctic Roll, then you wouldn't even need to thaw it out.

Plus your guests will be too busy going all gooily nostalgic to consider that you didn't make it yourself.

 If he wants to get all la-di-da he could slice it up and then stack the slices back together pouring cream between them as he goes. Not that I've ever done that, of course...
