Looked out this morning before setting off, and it was blowing a bit, but only spotting with rain.
"Doesn't look too bad" I said, putting the wateproof away.

10 minutes up the road, and the rain started with a vengeance. Got to the point where I had to stop and push, cos I couldnt see for the headwind blowing water into my face. Got to work looking like a drowned rat.

Worst part was putting on the still sodden lycra for the return journey tonight - Oh, and somehow it was STILL a bastard headwind.......

Yes! Must be mad. Lakes at the side of the road, hail, biblical flood type rain and a headwind that had me almost at a standstill. Glad it didn't beat me, but it's a helluva way to get to work when the weather's like this. Not much sign of the winds abating, so may well take the bus tomorrow...

Coming in at lunchtime was great - following wind all the way! Waiting to go home now. The wind seems to have dropped a little, but not looking forward to it.

Tomorrow, they say, the wind will be 10mph higher at home time... but its got to be done.:banghead:

The Catrike isn't bothered by wind.

Shame I couldn't say the same for the trailer. Good job there was a 10kg parcel in it on the morning run in when it was windier.

Oh and the horizontal head-on sleet wasn't pleasant either. Nor was not being able to find my full gloves...fingertips were a little numb to say the least

Then arriving at work where we have a leaky roof - the ceiling had fallen in!

Yep. Had the wind behind me this morning, allowing me to hit some high speeds on the flats. The driving rain and all the standing water was a bit of a pain (no mudguards), but nothing the waterproofs and brand new full-finger gloves couldn't deal with.

The way back was a bit interesting. Narrowly avoided a large hail shower, and the huge gusts got me below 10mph at times..

4 miles in (via train station) in the rain - not too bad tbh
17 miles home, really strong wind, really hard work.

Managed my 9 mile round commute into Newcastle. A mix of tailwinds, headwinds and side gusts (listed in order of pleasantness). At one point I helped a bus driver who'd route had been blocked by bins strewn across the road.

I was going to ride over to my friend's tonight to watch the football, but chickened out and took the car.

Wallington to Greenwich started at 7am wind behind me all the way! Ride home wasn't so much fun a cross wind going through Croydon nearly had me off. Felt good just to be out on the bike though.

Central London is OK in strong winds. Most buildings are five to six floors tall, the roads are relatively narrow compared to the windbreaks, and you are quite sheltered. It all goes horribly wrong when you ride over a bridge across the Thames. At the crest of a bridge you can get a sudden gust that blows you a metre sideways, and there is nothing you can do about it. If there is a big bus behind me, I trust the driver to hang back. They are good with cyclists. Otherwise, I walk over on the pavement.
