did carbon frame really exist 15 years ago?

Aye. Carbon fibre tubes, bonded to alu lugs.

Yes they did. And the Giant Cadex was one such. Not sure if it was fully carbon, could be carbon tubes with alloy lugs and forks. It's a fair price too, imo... at the moment!

I'm not sure that is a cf bike- though carbon fibre can be manipulated in a range of ways- so the thin frame could be possible - the shape of the tubing is merely a fashion thing rather than constraints of the material.

Might be worth asking him a couple of questions.

What struck me was odd though was a Alu front fork and then a carbon frame?!!! surely it's practical for comfort to have a carbon front fork as well.

Bit of a odd advert to be honest - it does look like a steel frame but it may be a specially made bike - hard to say!

If you look at the photo it's straight carbon sections joined with alu/steel twiddly bits. A bit of a museum piece.

Yes, from what I've been reading, it would seem so.

Personally, I'd be more interested in riding it than collecting it but to each their own. It'd be interesting to see what it goes for.

Would you like my bank account details too while you're at it? You seem like the trustworthy type.

yes -that is very early design - look just below the saddle - you can see the silver 3 way lug into which the carbon fibre tubes were glued in.

there is a reason why they are not made anymore.

avoid - this type of construction; raleigh made this type of frame and was notorious for the glue letting go, just what you want when hurtling 60 mph down a tricky hill.
