With my intention to cycle a marathon a day I set out this morning on an extended route, I cycled to Abbey Hey. Jumped on the the Fallowfield Loop and followed it to Chorlton and then headed back into Gorton. I managed 16.51 miles and I was melted. That was probs down to the fact I didnt have a drink with me

I have had a drink now and feel better, legs are on fire tho  Will finish the day on around 23 miles, I think that once I have done it a few times (and taken a drink) I should be able to push it to 26.2 miles but the last mile this morning I did wonder if I had bitten off more than I could chew. However now I feel excited at the prospect, shame I didnt have that drink on the road LOL

Always make sure you carry a drink and some energy food, even if it's only a Mars Bar.

Other than that, don't overdo it - the distance and the desire to do the increasing distances will build naturally. Too much too soon is a recipe for injury.

Well done though!!

Yup, I normally do but around Oct/Nov I was doing 13-14 miles in the morning without a drink etc, but because of injury my miles have fallen off in a big way so this was a step up again, that and I broke my bottle cage (Runs off to eBay)

Cheers Man

Gaz,
as the OP says always have a drink (or 2) with you and whilst riding drink it before you feel thirsty.

In the summer months I do a 22 mile route in the morning. I don't eat until I get to work but I will drink two cups of coffee before I leave. On the route I'll take on 75cl of very dilute Lemon Barley. I'll have a nutty/seedy snack with me incase, but mostly I find keeping hydrated is sufficent over that time scale. I'm always whacked when I get to work and eat a croissant and drink some more caffine.

I finished the day on 23 miles, I was wasted by the time I got home, tho my pace was actually pretty good. Gotta start work megga early today so while I will have change to do more than the 6.5 mile norm I will probs only have time to do around 11 miles.

Its amazing just what our bodys will do when we ask them, the hardest part yesterday was mental, not physical TBH.

Stay safe out there folkes.

I worked at the Lucas Industries Engineering Research Center for a few months back in the eighties.

Two work colleagues were members of the Shirley Roads Club.

We were discussing nutrition, and one of them took a bite of his sandwich and spluttered through the chewing "It's amazing how far you can cycle on a cheese sandwich".

Another guy, an interloper across the office chirped up with "You'd be better off cycling on a push bike"....

16 Miles today, was done for after yesterday and todays early start, anyone know a decent route to Chorlton from Hyde but not using the fallowfield loop ? Those bloody stop start gates are a real pain.

Gonna push for 20 miles tomorrow, 20 on Friday (With an hour in the Gym before work) and then 26 on Saturday

good on you Gaz, I'd pencil in a rest day each week, or at least a day when the only bike stuff is a pootle to the shops or similar. Barring that what you're doing sounds pretty good. I regularly do a 24 mile loop and don't feel any extra food is needed, though that doesn't always stop me. My fluid intake really depends on workrate and the weather, a hot Summers day and I'll get through a couple of litres, plain water. Your stamina and resistance will build up pretty quickly.

Im looking to Sundays as my rest days, My stamina and confidence took a beating in the accident but after this mornings 9 and a half miles in 37 mins I feel like I have finally turned the corner back to where I was in Dec.
