Difficult start

Difficult start to the day...up at 3.30am with my autistic daughter who decided that she wanted to dance in the early hours and din't go back to bed. Then decided to try somewhere new for breakfast as an end of holiday treat. Manageress pretty much forced us to leave...Lissy who is non-verbal autistic wasn't allowed to look at the app on my phone as it might disturb the other customers. We weren't allowed in a booth (which would have helped) as we needed to be as far away from the other customers as possible. Then when Lissy started to make noises as she was bored, the manageress came and made it very clear that we should leave by giving Abi evil looks and tutting disapprovingly! We struggle with going out anyway with Lissy's needs and this just affirmed that some people won't accept us as a family :-(

People like that make me just want to spit.

That sounds pants. I hope that the day improved, and that tomorrow has a better start!

I think that a lot of places are getting better at autism awareness and autism acceptance, but there's a way to go, isn't there?

Its just ignorance. Ignorant people with no compassion or empathy. You manage pressures on a daily basis that these people would crumble under. Be proud of yourself, be proud of your family, and know that there are many more people that respect you for the wonderful person you are.

Same but different. As I write this reply, we have been trying not to disturb our 39yr autistic, non-verbal daughter, who went to bed about 9pm. But to no avail, she is awake, happy as ever, but looks like we are going to have an up & down night again. We have the PRN zopiclone in with her meds, but reluctant to apply. She is already on a cocktail of about 12 pills each day and we have been trying to get her off these gradually. We had a huge success, which took about 2 years to get her off respiridal, an evil drug which had side affects. Longish drive tomorrow to take her back to her care home in Dover, then a few days rest before she is back with us for the next weekend and it all starts again. Autism, so difficult to understand and live with. Even the professionals don't get it right - parents always know best.

Good luck

There was a day many years ago when we suffered the same , full sympathies for you , I found that most of the customers at the time were more disapproving of the manager , but we got up and left anyway , If it is a well known company Id name and shame them ,

There needs to be much better awareness of these issues. The premises have no right to make you feel like you are a problem - they are the problem for not being able to accommodate and cater for your needs.
Never mind ignorance, it's illegal. Is there a local disability group who might pick up on it?
