You're on the open road, nice shiny bike that has not gathered more than a 'touch' of dirt over the year so far, turn down a lane and after a couple of miles the road is caked in mud (farm workers in and out of field with tractors etc)... my heart sank... first time this year my bike has become dirty

Just thought id share that. Have a good day all!!

(btw, this is not a dig at any farm workers..lol)

Clearly not a mountain biker then are you?

IMHO the whole point of cycling is to tear up some gnarly single-track, dude (said in a California accent), and get covered in mud!

The bike is now forever contaminated. It will never be properly clean again, no matter how long you spend cleaning and polishing, in your mind it will always be slightly grubby now.
Accept it. Revel in it. Think of how unattractive to the light fingered it will look.

There is only one course of action open to you after that. Yup, you need a new shiney 'best' bike.
Its N+1 time

I thought this was a thread dedicated to Martin235's Giant - the one with the built-in growbags.

How come I get a mention?? My bike is currently at its cleanest (he says lying through his teeth). I'll probably give it a bit of a clean on Saturday as it's going on a date with ianrauk's shiny bike on Sunday.

That happened to my bike last year and I was gutted. It was the first time it had been battered since I bought it a few months earlier.

It looked a right sorry state after my 40 mile cycle I can tell you.

But, armed with a bucket of hot soapy water and a 10p Asda toothbrush (!) I managed to get into all the nooks and crannies to get it really clean again.

Since then, I have bought one of those 3 litre garden spray pressure things which I am looking forward to using the next time my bikes gets mucky.

Barnet,
You should of been on the Stevenage Audax ride last sunday. Not only the bike covered in crud, but the riders as well.

A truly terrifying disease. We can only hope that the global community acts before it is too late.

What's this obsession with clean bikes all about? We buy our bikes to be ridden, don't we? I ride my bike and it gets dirty, when it gets that dirty its slowing me down then I will show it the soapy water.

My bling bike got covered in carp a couple of weekends ago, on just a 19 mile spin - I did go down lots of little lanes, not far from the house, but 1900 ft of climbing in that short distance. Was fun. Just wash it at the end.
