I do confess. My bikes are spotless I'm a bit OCD I think. My bike that is used daily is cleaner than my car. One of my co workers has a farm road to trek down every day. He had about 2ibs of mud on it.
The bike companys don't go through all that research and effort to make your bike as light as possible for you to add 2ibs of mud! .
What's this obsession with clean bikes all about? We buy our bikes to be ridden, don't we? I ride my bike and it gets dirty, when it gets that dirty its slowing me down then I will show it the soapy water.

My bling bike got covered in carp a couple of weekends ago, on just a 19 mile spin - I did go down lots of little lanes, not far from the house, but 1900 ft of climbing in that short distance. Was fun. Just wash it at the end.
be careful with that. water forced at pressure into wheel hubs, bottom brackets and headset races can cause corrosion of the bearings. add the pedal axle hubs to that list too.
