Are there any good bike maintenance books that you would recommend to a newbie who would like to keep his bike up together with his own hands if possible.

Zinn and the Art of bike maintenence books are great.

However, everything you need is able to be found on the electrical intraweb. (You Tube etc)

Thanks for the reply ian, I just find it easier to have a book next to me on the workbench, that I can glance at it I try to work on the bike.

The older I get, the faster I used to be ...
Print out the appropriate page/s from the Park Tool website, then it doesn't matter if they get covered with oil/grease. Otherwise the Haynes Manual is a good general introduction. Make sure you get the latest edition however.

Hi Phill
I used the Haynes Manual when I first started tinkering with the bikes, knowing next to nothing.
This is a good general maintenance book. However, I do supplement this with looking at videos online since there's no substitue for seeing someone actually doing a tricky/fiddy task.
This has seen me through most jobs, along with a lot of trial and error!

Most Libraies have Haynes Bike Book in stock so if you are a member of a Library you can get it on loan for a couple of months each time

You can buy the Park Tools blue book, very useful for confirming what I thought without going back into the house and turning on the pc or I was too lazy to print the instructions off the internet or I did print the instructions but cannot find them after someone else tidied up:tongue: .

+1 for the Park book and the haynes. A book is always better I think - fiddling online with greasy hands doesn't strike me as a good idea. And not being a techie genius I always think it's best to check and check again, particularly if doing a job for the first time. Best to do it with a book. The Park book in particular will probably pay for itself the first time you use it.
