First posted in caff [Moved to Bikes, Accessories etc by Mod], just thought I'd bung it in touring too
For my forthcoming summer bicycle bimbles round England:
I have maps ready, and they fit rather nicely on this holder I fashioned today from
1) An old clip board, that has been hanging round my office for a decade.
2) Saw the end off, and patch up with gaffer tape
3) Attach to front of handlebar bag (the see-through 'map holder' top of which is not big enough for my mapular needs) using silicone strap bough off eBay 5 yrs ago and a spare allen key
4) Hold the bottom of it in place with my bar extender
5) Elastic doodaa from god knows where to provide 'keep map in place' extra security
6) Hey presto!

But what will happen if it :rain: :giggle:

You deploy a transparent membrane based rain resistant carto-protection device - available in most good and even a lot of c**p supermarkets

You can't tease us with a picture of a bloody map holder and not show the whole rig!

Here we go. This was the day it arrived, and I'd just finished taking it out of the box and setting it up etc.
Edinburgh bikes Revolution Country Traveller. So far I've covered about 400 miles on it, and it's a real joy to ride.
Alu frame, steel forks.
It's (currently) bike number 3 (I also have my roadie, a trusty MTB and +a decent mtb frame I'm eventually going to make into a single speed pub bike).

NB: Comments on the positioning of the stand are welcome. I put it on, and placed it on chain stay, left-hand side) as that seemed to make sense, balance-wise. I've since seen lots with it placed further back, nearer rear dropouts... I'm losing sleep over it  and I need help urgently.

I was kidding, but it's always good to see what other people are touring on  Thanks for taking the trouble to post!

My kickstand is right at the back, but only as the mounting bracket clamps on both the chain and seatstays...not sure what's the best place otherwise.

Re positioning of stand.
The optimum position for the stand may change with differing loadings on the bike. Before a tour I would be inclined to experiment with different positions with the bike fully laden in touring mode.
