The very first primary school I went to at Torwood near Falkirk was a one teacher school and had outdoor dry toilets where the back part below seat level was uncovered presumably for emptying purposes. The whole back area was protected by a highish metal fence some distance back from the toilet block. The boys used to wait there at playtime sometimes and wait until the girls went into their part and threw stones aiming to bounce a stone upwards and cause screams of panic.
