I've got bikkits down permanently. They don't yowl for food but do attract my attention when the level drops sufficiently for them to panic.

The dog used to get confused by the clocks changing and presumably the hunger pangs or lack of them.

.... The hunger instinct is well developed in cats from my experience!

Indeed.... ours too; everyone who catsits for ours always remarks on how much she loves her food.

We shut outs in the kitchen overnight (they do have beds)..... 3 cats playing chase the other at 3am is a no-no...

One of the cat's does the meowing mainly, but the youngest rarely meows (has a 'dinner time' announcer already), although she has a habit of raiding the dried food box....

6am in our house for 'breakfast' which involves one of the cats chewing Mrs Noodley's hair, patting her on the face with a paw and nibbling her nose. If she does not wake up soon enough, phase 2 is to knock over the bedside lamp.

Thankfully my part in their routine involves still being asleep for them returning to bed and cuddling into me and going back to sleep.

Division of labour, hey. Sadly (for the cat) we've had to remove the dried food boxes from reach, after the unfortunate incident involving no early morning-feline-alarm-call, followed by the discovery of a well-fed cat and a ripped-open catfood box.

Cats cecome accustomed to the routine of the house and know the events that precede feeding. Ours spends the day outside and waits for my wife and son to get home, sometimes coming right out into the road when they drive up. Gawd knows how she hasn't got herself run over.

Bikepete and I always take turns to feed ours, so one of us gets to stay in bed for a bit.

We have a new addition to our routine, watching her eat her food then making sure she doesn't go into the utility room to have a pee after her food. We wouldn't mind if she used her litter tray to have a wee but she chooses to use the floor.

So strait after she has eaten its out the front door with her.
