Do estate cars have the same batteries?

Need a new battery for my golf estate - I've found the equivalent (year/model/engine) hatchback listed - would I be safe in assuming the estate takes the same battery?

Thanks.

Yes I believe so , no extra electric on an estate than a hatch so I presume same battery but I'm no expert

Assuming the engine bay is the same. Or just get the battery that matches your reg/model. Euro carparts allow search by reg for example, or ask your local motor factors/garage

Almost certainly the same, but engine bays are tight for space.

It would be better to compare the new one side by side before buying it.

That would also enable you to check if the terminals are the same.

Have you got the radio code?

The radio will probably lock when you disconnect the old battery.

There should be a code on your existing battery such 063 which will tell you all you need to know about it.

As Golfs are common cars, any decent motor factors should know what fits it anyway when you give model/year/engine size.

VW batteries always seem to have the terminals the opposite way around from anything else.

Thanks - 075 as it turns out. £35, delivered, in 24 hrs. Don't you just love t'internet!

If it's a volkswagen diesel be careful disconnecting the old battery because this will release all the pollution stored in the ECU by VW's dodgy engine management software. :okay:

However, if it was a British car, you could possibly substitute that emissions for genuine Lucas harness smoke

Same battery. It's dictated by the engine type, not t'body style. The only exceptions will be those very rare cars that have batteries in the boot or under the rear seat etc, and I shouldn't think many of them about now.

Ones with stop-start (conk out mode) often have a bigger battery as may ones with more extras like heated seats or other stuff that is a drain on the battery.

My merc has the battery in the boot. If it goes flat you have to unlock the front door with the key (only the front doors have a key hole) open the back doors, lower the back seats and climb in the boot, (removing all the stuff in it if full), take a little cover off the inside of the tailgate and release the tailgate. You can then get to the battery under the floor.
