Do fat people bonk?

I'm pretty skinny, and I have to eat like fury on a long ride to keep going. I nearly always underestimate just how much I'll need to eat. Is that because I'm not carrying much fat?

Do those of a plumper persuasion find they can eat less or go further before they bonk? Or does the body use every scrap of every other fuel around before embarking on metabolising fat?

Just musing. And it makes a good thread title.

In my case - much more frequently than when I was slim and fit. It takes a lot more energy to hump a big body about over the hills than a small one, and as pointed out above - fat is fine for slow, steady efforts, but it is glycogen that you want for intense efforts and that is in relatively short supply.

I pretty much know what I need to keep me going now so bonking had become rare. I have had it happen when I am trying hard to keep up with faster riders because I am working harder than usual and have less time to eat or drink.
