How do you work this one out? If I came off my bike doing 10mph and nutted the road I would want to be wearing a helmet.

OK, that's a fair cop. Minor injuries such as cuts and scrapes, I think there's no argument about helmet effectiveness above the ear line. I'm talking about serious and life changing head injuries type stuff.

Funnily enough one of my skating acquaintances arrived at the park on Saturday with major face road rash after a stack on the road. I dunno whether she was wearing a helmet or not, but it wouldn't have helped her with those injuries because they were lower down on her jaw and cheek. This is why standard teaching methodoloy is to teach skaters to get their hands up and use their wrist guards. I'm shocked when I see a cyclist riding without hands, and hands in their pockets. This is how to get a serious head injury, helmet or not, because they won't be able to get their hands in the way.

Hmm, could lead the way to a broken Clavicle

It's a good point. What's better though, head injury instead? Broken or dislocated collarbones are one of the most common cycling injury, even amongst the pros.

Personally, I wouldn't want to smack my head into the tarmac regardless of whether I was wearing a helmet. I don't trust that the helmet will save my life, and I'm always going to do my best to get my hands in the way regardless of the risk of a broken collarbone.

I doubt BM gets a cut, but his review of Cyclecraft is on the inside cover...

I guess that's where the power trip comes from then.

I wouldn't trust it either but would still wear one to help prevent serious injury and save my head from a nice bump/fracture if I came off at a low speed.

Must admit if it came to that I'd rather be wearing a helmet.

I think the term "magic foam hats" is very irritating as well as generally it's making out people to be stupid.

We all know that helmets have their limitations and possibly risks.
Im going to wear some sort of head cover and a helmet is better than a hat which would possibly fly off.

I do take your points, but I just have a severe amount of doubt that an inch or less of flimsy polystyrene is ever going to be anything more than magic.

p.s. you do realise that apparently some of the helmets with the stylish and aero spikes at the back have to be duct-taped on during helmet testing, as their strap and retention system isn't enough to hold the helmet on the headform?

Are we still talking?;)

Why do they wear helmets on the track?

Obviously it's some sort of regulation?

Pray,that makes it a hat.

Day-Glo yellow waterproof material with chevron pattern is bright and very noticeable by day, and the reflective tape material is clearly visible by night
Can also be used to cover bike pannier bags for increased visibility
Not for the shy and retiring type of rider!
