Do Ninja's come to grief ?

I see a lot of Ninja's day to day but whenever I see some sad story about a cyclist being killed or injured it usually seems like it is someone that was fairly visible and takign it seriously, it is not like you hear about loads of hoodies on BMX's, all dressed in black going under the wheels of trucks, is this my perception at fault of are Ninja's aware of there status and take more care (cycling on the pavement for instance....), do they do less miles, is it because they are slower and dont go in proper traffic ?

J4CKO makes a good point. I see Ninjas every night on my commute home. Swerving in and out, RLJ'ing to their hearts content.. but the very few cycling accidents I have seen have been 'proper' cycling commuters.

Turns out that not having lights is not a major cause of cycling accidents.

Probably not, due to their habit of cycling on pavements (where there are any) and riding onto the verge when anything larger than, say, another cyclist, happens along the road. Crappy technique and it takes them forever to get there, but it keeps them out of the road of the traffic.
The likes of memebers of this forum, however, who do ride in amongst the tin-boxed masses, do come to grief

Cycling isn't dangerous. What causes the vast bulk of serious accidents adult cyclists have is motorists. The idea that its because too many are unlit is a fairytale (thats 2% of accidents)

Maybe as they are ninjas, just like when they are cycling, we can't see them when they have been knocked over

There aren't many stealth cyclists around here (unless I just can't see them) but I think that's because almost none of the roads are lit.

I still ride at night sometimes without lights and have never had an accident. Just need to be alot more aware, the problem is assumption imo. Riders that assume motorists will see them because they have lights fitted are asking for trouble.

I think you can get away with it but are giving drivers another excuse to treat us all as idiots and potentially you might not get injured but a car making an evasive maneuver having just spotted you may cause an accident.

I agree that making any assumptions about drivers having seen you is a dangerous one, assume they havent and base your decisions on that, as frankly they sometimes see you and just do it anyway.

Although I don't ride without lights at night. I fully expect motons to not see a Maxx-Daddy sometimes.
