As the title says - do the pads in lycra shorts wear out? I did a long cycle at the weekend in a pair of shorts that I've always found comfortable; but on this ocassion I struggled with discomfort - I'd describe it as pressure rather than chafing. I was wondering if the pad had got thinner as I can't think what else could have changed. They're a pair of DHBs from Wiggle, and I've had them a few years now, so it isn't unreasonable that they could just be getting a bit old, though I've been very happy with them up to now.

IME, with cheaper shorts the pad "flattens" with time and it's effectiveness wanes. With all shorts, I would expect them to wear out where they rub the saddle before the pad is completely done in though.

I have some dhb shorts from wiggle which are in their 2 nd year now and i also have comfort issues. Seems a common thing. I have increased my saddle time this year but not significantly.
