Love my commute to bits, except on the days I'm bored of it.

I cycle commute because I enjoy it! I dead the thought of ever having to do so again by car, commuting by car is so soul-destroying, just look at all those people trapped in their tin boxes as you pass them...

I've now been commuting for about six months and must say I love it. I've lost a couple of kilos as a result of being able to incorporate exercise into my daily routine. I'm going to cycle a bit less during winter but not beat myself up over it, just head to the gym more.

I got the tube a couple of days last week when recovering from man flu and I have to say, even with the odd soaking, I'd FAR rather go by bike. It's cheaper, quicker, and you feel a sense of freedom. Okay you may look a bit of a berk waddling into the office on cleat shoes wearing tights, but I love the warm smug glow riding into work provides.

I've had the odd near miss but nothing that's really rattled me. Seeing the tragic aftermath of the fatal incident near Oval tube nearly stopped me commuting before I'd even got into it but I gradually got my confidence back and feel I'm a safer rider as a result.

So all in all, about 1500 miles in, yeah I'm converted.

I had a dopey old moton drive into me last tuesday, stuffing the bike and doing a bit of damage to my arm, jckaet and helmet. I drove for a few days and can't wait to get back on the bike - its far more fun than sitting in traffic, despite the odd crunch.

I am a cycling commuter myself, but reading this forum can knock your spirits sometimes, what with posts about accidents, abysmal facilities, near-misses and general tales of woe.

So I would just like to lighten things up a bit and say that for the last two mornings I have seen lovely rainbows.

Nature. You can't beat it.

So the answer for me is a definite yes:thumbsup:

I personally think that there is a lot of sympathy, empathy and knowledge on this site

The postings about bad experiences are often cathartic and either offer learning experience, gain from other's advice or reassure oneself that we were inthe right

+1 I love my commute and from now on will always try to live 5-10 miles away from work so that I can cycle in. But I came to this site after a bad run in with an aggressive driver that left me shocked and feeling a bit victimised. I needed the support of cyclists, got it alnd felt much better about my commute again.

I do really enjoy my commute, but I'd enjoy it a lot more if I didn't have to worry about aggressive drivers. However, they don't put me off enough to stop cycling to work!

I do enjoy my commute, it's not as far as some, 4 miles at most in any single stretch and no more than 12 in total between sites depending on where lectures are, but it is by far the highlight of my day.

I wouldn't really say that I enjoy my commute at this time of year, since it's so cold/wet, but I do like the effects: it's quicker and cheaper than using public transport, and I'm a lot fitter than I used to be (a couple of people have mentioned that I've lost weight).

That said, it can still be fun. I came home on Monday evening at midnight, so there was very little traffic, and I had extremely good luck with traffic lights: almost all of them were either green already or they changed to green just as I approached. I wound up with a new personal best for my journey time, which I wasn't specifically aiming for when I set off.

Yesterday was brilliant the sun was out and I was smiling. Commuting is always fun but sometimes it is more fun than others!

As long as I breathe, I attack.
I cycle cos its cheaper than running the car and there's no public transport to where i work.I get some training in which i would otherwise not get chance to do and now after over a year of it i have enough stuff to start saving money on petrol etc .

That said the wife would use the bus before she had the car so i have saved money already .

Enjoy? most of the time but atm its dark both ways so a little depressing and the numpty drivers seem to be out and about a lot more so i have to motivate myself every time i venture onto the roads.

Nope not enjoying my commutes at the moment.

Hopefully todays commute is better than yesterdays.

The story is my cough is back, probably triggered by the coldish weather but im going to try and fight this like I did yesterday.

I love my cycle to work (although only a couple of miles, I am quicker on my bike than in the car). I always feel as if I haven't woken up properly if I don't cycle in. It's a really good way to start the day!

We (my partner and I) do a 25 mile round trip and generally it's good. I dislike cycling in the dark but I'll do it. She is faster than me so I generally lag behind but it's good training. Dislikes are numpty drivers (altho' there are considerate drivers) and numpty cyclists/people on bikes. We don't cycle if it's raining in the morning orif it's icy or if we have commitments at work.
