I really love cycling now, and when I am on it I rarely get bothered but sometimes I get butterflies, Sunday night after a couple of days off the thought of Artics passing 2 feet to my left has my arse going like a Rabbits nose !

Anyone else get this ?

I've had the odd 'anxious' moment that has made me think of my mortality.
Those 'moments' have been few and far between though.

I got that a few years ago, bored of using the Bristol 2 Bath I switched to the Fishponds Rd, I was bloody terrified! You virtually have to stop at each minor junction for fear of some eejit cutting across the bus lane. If you're in the bus lane and your not the size of a bus you're totally invisible apparently.

I soon went back to the boring B2B.

Good question. Never when commuting, which may not be a good thing - risk perception and all that.

I do get the jitters occasionally before a long ride which is daft, as I'm usually on my own. I guess its the thought of the challenge.

No. Never. Annoyed, frustrated, confused, perhaps, but scared or daunted, no.

This should be taken in context though... when I see people base-jump on TV or youtube, I always think I'd want to do that! ;)

No to be frank - far to used to riding in heavy traffic, and don't worry about it.....

Fairly unlikely that something will happen....

I think anyone who never thinks of the dangers is either overconfident or very unimaginative. I find that that most of these thoughts go away when I'm actually riding - they're there before you start but once you're actually riding you feel you're in familiar territory and more in control of things. It's a bit like the urge to procrastinate I get before going for a run or going into the gym - you just tell yourself JFDI and get on with it and then you can't understand what the problem was.

There is however, a big difference between thinking of and attempting to reduce dangers and actually being daunted or scared.....

I occasionally get the jitters if I'm riding my upright bike, but not on the recumbent. I really do feel a lot safer on the 'bent, in spite of all the people who say I must be very brave/stupid to ride it in traffic.

Magnatom, yes, understand what you mean. If it gets to the point it stops you doing something or enjoying it then it's a real problem. I think what I was saying was that sometimes things seem daunting but when you start it's OK. Wasn't trying to trivialise the OP's feelings.
