Do you ever ride on the pavement?

I ride a couple of miles of very similar road, 50 limit also. As in your example, the cars have good sight lines and an overtaking lane to pass me in: There's no reason not to be on the road there and it is IMO where any experienced adult cyclist (i.e. anyone who is beyond the 'learning to ride' stage) should be.

You are certainly correct in law, but I think if you don't feel safe on the road you probably are not.

I've been cycling for more than 20 years, I know a thing or two about safety. If you had any experience of that road you wouldn't go near it. Unless, that is, you enjoy the sensation of being passed by cars doing well over 70mph, followed by 44 tonne HGVs doing the thick end of 50?

Good sight lines or not, it isn't safe to cycle on that road. I'll take the pavement any day, even at the cost of my liberty.

I would never cycle on a pavement busy with peds but will go on the pavement if a low sun makes it hard to see ahead.

Mostly out of town pavements are empty anyway. I dont use them but cant really see a problem if someone feels safer there and they ride carefully.
