Do you ever wish your commute was longer just so you could cycle that bit longer?

I do. Unfortunately my commute is only 2miles each way...so at most 4miles a day. It's only on the odd occasion when I have some place/appointment to go to that I get to cycle further. ;)

I suppose I could always find a job further away or move away from the area. Humph.

Anyone else do a silly short commute and wish it were actually longer?

2 miles is walking distance ?

Mines 6.5 miles but i often take a longer route home.
I have a few different routes of varying lengths, tonight I added about 3 miles but tomorrow it'll be a nice 20 mile commute home, can't wait

Yes but walking there is so bloody boring...plus there are many schools in the area and you have to make your way through hoards of crazy kids.
Also, hence why I wish my work place was somewhat further away.

My commute in the morning is anywhere between 10 and 25 miles depending on how early i get out of bed...
On the way home, it's always 2.74 miles. same route, no deviation. want to just get home and have some tea!

Welcome bigsav

I do 8 miles each way and have been using a mountain bike whilst the insurance company sorted me out a new bike. It was nice enough - the gears softened the hills and the suspension evened out the potholes - but, the extra time it took was a killer on early starts

Perhaps a winter hybrid might help? ... if you can get it past the finance sub-committee, of course.

Thanks Johnr.

It's the anticipation that gets me. The cold and wet are so much worse in my head than they are 15 minutes into my journey. Chickened out this morning as I looked out the window at 6.05 . I need to do a few shorter runs to get back into it before I try to make it to work again.

Would absolutely love a winter hybrid but the finance sub-committee is in full 'January' mode!

I find my commute is variable, it starts at 10 miles if I can remember the direct route (& I do really have to look at a map to remind my self of the direct route!). Generally its around 13 miles outbound & 20miles return, however it's been known to end up well over 30 miles because I got a little enthusiastic... lost... disorientated after overshooting a junction on semi-familiar roads! Now where do I apply for my mouseketeer membership

6 miles each way for me, in the summer I’ll add another 6 on the way back if I fancy it, used to do a 30 miler once a week before my only mate with a roadie left to move back to Blackburn!

This topic is awesome! I couldn't ever imagine train commuters or car commuters voluntarily adding miles to their commutes, but the general consensus on here is that it's disappointing not to!

My commute is about 5 miles each way, I occasionally add another 10 onto the way home if I can manage it.

9 miles each way for me,good distance I think.Last year did the occasional extended route on way home when I finished at 2pm,now I finish at 4.30 probably won't bother tbh.Except Fridays when I finish at 12pm:biggrin:
