Had a bad feeling tonight on leaving work: it was dark, raining, rush hour - rush hour makes me nervous because I rarely have to ride during that time - plus I had a weird kind of premonition of falling off in the park I use as a shortcut because of all the wet leaves.
So I shrugged all the feelings of dread off, changed route to avoid the park and the busy town centre, bought some chocolate on the way home

Btw, great thread op!

Any excuse

Rush hour makes me a little nervous but I'm getting used to it now after 3 years of avoiding it, other than that nothing really.

I can't believe how many people get this! I thought I was just some sort of weirdo...

(Well, OK, I am a bit of a weirdo, but not because of the feeling nervous bit)

I actually get more nervous when I set out exploring, like Herr-B #29.
Dunno why, it's not like I'm heading into the Amazon forest or the Sahara desert

Every day! It's totally irrational, and I don't understand why it is. It doesn't even seem to be about the traffic or anything. Even after more than 2 years of dong it, until I'm out there and underway, I'm not convinced I can do the 25 mile round trip.

Yes!. I am never totally confident that I will make it even though I have never failed, I've done 100 mile rides and my commute is usually only about 11 or 12 miles each way. I think it's a sign of intelligence :becool:

I dont get nervous. But I did (until about 2 years of commuting) used to wonder if today would be "ok".

And I was aware that this was never something that crossed my mind when I drove to work.

Its a thought that will disappear with time.

I don't get nervous about the commute itself, but I do get a bit nervy about the rigmarole of packing all the necessaries, just in case I forget something essential, like my work trousers.

Never, ever nervous about cycling in traffic/dark/rain. In fact I love the challenge of adverse conditions ('cept rain ) so don't get any foreboding feelings before a commute. I do appreciate how it feels though as even after a decade of successful 4x4 trial competitions I would still always get terrible butterflies when sat at the start gate of the first section of the day.

Must admit I do at times, esp after work and riding into the rush hour.Im normally knackered esp if I've been up since 2am but I still need my concentration.

Getting out of work and cycling home is what I look forward to! After getting hit by a lorry earlier in the year I was a bit apprehensive for a few days - and haven't used that route as much as I used to.

Unless I'm riding into the wind, or its absolutely lashing down can't beat it! Plus I love the dark commutes. I seem to get a lot more respect on the road from other users than in the day - powerful lights might help since some of my commute is on unlit roads.

Maybe I'm not as strange as I first thought

I realised this morning that it's the evening commute that makes me nervous, not the morning one. I guess that's got something to do with having no time to think about it.
